David Murrell was born in Augusta, Georgia, August 29, 1966; he grew up in North Augusta, South Carolina. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 1989 and received his Juris Doctorate with honors, cum laude, from Mississippi College School of Law in 1997. He was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 1998 and the United States District Court in 2000. He has been a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church since 2001 and served on numerous committees. Over the last seven years, he has helped lead the Contemporary Worship service at his church and plays bass in the contemporary service band.
He has worked as a personal injury attorney solely representing injured people since 1998; he began his own employment law practice that represented employees in 2000. His most recent employment was at Murrell Law Firm from 2008-2013.
He is a member of the South Carolina Injured Workers' Advocates, the South Carolina Association for Justice and the Charleston County Bar Association. In 2010, he was a speaker at the 28th Annual Convention of the South Carolina Injured Workers' Advocates legal seminar on the topic of employment law implications in the workers’ compensation setting.
He has been active in coaching on his children’s soccer, flag football and football teams in the City of Charleston Recreation League. His interests also include playing guitar, bass, drums, hiking and camping. He has been married to his wife, Susan, for over 20 years; they have three children.
