Case Files – South Carolina Highway Accident Kills Pedestrian

When people choose to drive under the influence of alcohol, it often ends badly. In doing so, they put themselves and those around them in great danger and that irresponsibly can cost lives. In one such case, a pedestrian lost his life in an alleged DUI accident early one morning in South Carolina.

The 46-year-old man was walking down Chesnee Highway when a passing car struck him, launching his body into the air. The impact knocked him into the northbound lane of the highway, where two additional vehicles then hit him. He died of his injuries at the scene of the accident. The accident is currently under investigation by the Highway Patrol.

The three drivers involved in the incident were all unhurt. However, the 40-year-old driver of the first vehicle was transported to a detention center in Spartanburg County. He now faces a charge of driving under the influence and has had his bond denied by a magistrate judge.

If the driver is found guilty of the charges against him, he could face severe sentencing, including hefty fines and possible jail time. Furthermore, the family of the victim may choose to seek damages in compensation for their loss. Even so, this might only serve to cover the costs of the funeral expenses that are currently a cause for concern for the victim’s son.

_South Carolina is no stranger to such accidents and victims and their families must be prepared to confront those responsible. If you have been involved in a drunk driving accident, you might benefit from an attorney’s expertise. Recovering from an accident can be emotionally and physically exhausting.
